Taxes and Duties

Custom Duties de minimis in India

USD: N/A

It is important to notify your Indian package recipient that any taxes and fees are due upon delivery and are payable by the receiver of the international shipment to India. VIPparcel customers are only accountable for a proper completion of the customs form and shipping label costs. If a receiver denies paying fees for the total landed shipment cost, packages will be returned to the shipper at no additional fee. This is not decided by VIPparcel but by the receiving country. However, VIPparcel customers should note that USPS will not refund the international USPS shipping label cost.

Customs Duties are charges and fees that are imposed by India's customs authority based on a shipment total value: price of goods, insurance, and shipping costs.

Import Taxes are the charges applied by India such as general consumption or sales taxes.
De minimis value is a shipment's minimum value exempt from duties and/or taxes. Indian de minimis value is N/A.

How to Fill out a Customs Form

The Customs Form is a required document used to declare a shipment when you send a package internationally. When sending an international package, all VIPparcel customers should expect to complete a USPS customs form. In shipping internationally from the US to India, a customer is required to complete a customs form, which provides a description of a package content such as goods details, quantity, value, weight, and country of origin.

VIPparcel shipping software simplifies your shipping internationally to India. A customs form is automatically set up when a user creates a shipping label; all you need to do is fill out the form online, print international postage to India along with the customs form, and ship your packages. Should you need assistance in completing the customs form for your shipment to India, we are here to help. We advise first-time senders of packages to India to contact us directly for guidance.

Follow the guideline in order for a package to pass through the Customs Agency:

Be accurate when you enter a shipment category and a declared value.

If you are a commercial seller, you must list package items under merchandise category, and include the Commercial Invoice inside the parcel. Falsifying a customs form by marking commercial goods as “Gift” to avoid customs fees “shall be subject to a fine not to exceed $10,000 per violation or imprisonment for not more than 5 years, or both.“ U.S. Code: Title 13: Section 305

The sender's failure to complete the form properly can delay delivery of the item or inconvenience the sender and addressee. Moreover, a false, misleading, or incomplete declaration can result in the seizure or return of the item and/or in criminal or civil penalties. USPS International Mail Services 123.712

Enter either EEL (Exemption and Exclusion Legend) or PFC (Proof of Filing Citation). As a part U.S. Census Bureau regulations for goods export.

EEL code NOEEI 30.37(a) for items value less than $2,500. VIPparcel has set EEL code as a default code entry for users convenience.

You will need to obtain the Proof of Filing Citation if a shipment value is more than $2500. Learn how to get a PFC code.>

Be specific when you describe a package content. When sending multiple items in one package, list each item separately. Goods of the same kind can be listed under a single description with specifying their quantity.
