When it comes to US Postal tracking, some customers seem to have a common misconception about mail delivery confirmation and mail tracking. They come to the post office saying that they aren't able to track their mail from the office of mailing and during transit; all they can find out is the date and time of delivery. Worst scenario is when a customer complains about not able to track their parcel when they post it priority. In this article we are going to detail a brief distinction between the two.
The only way to track your mail or have visibility from mailing to destination points is to send it via Express Mail (domestic or international) and Global Express Guaranteed. Not only that your package is insured for $100 dollars but tracking is also included in the mailing price. On the other hand delivery confirmation is an inexpensive service that a customer must add to the type of mail purchased such as first class or priority mail as noted above; it does not track your mail, it only confirms the date and time of delivery.
There are many additional services that a customer may add to their priority, first class, or even media mail for them that confirm their deliveries. Besides delivery confirmation, the Post Office has signature confirmation, registered, and certified mail services. At a minimum the customer would find scans during mailing and when item was delivered or attempted delivery.

For an Express mail, you would find out several scans of the item as it moves through the mail stream. All other mail pieces would have at the most 3 scans; at point of service and at the end; no in between.
